The Workforce Development Program at Gayanga Co. empowers generational progress through community development. Guided by the goal of building a more inclusive STEM and energy workforce, this free program provides comprehensive 12-week courses in asbestos abatement, truck driving, and demolition labor. And since fulfilling employment is a cornerstone of healthy communities, Gayanga Co. and our partners offer full-time positions for all successful participants.
The Workforce Development Program is best suited for area residents over the age of 18. The application process is competitive and a select number of applicants are chosen for the three-track training program.
After 12 weeks of training, successful students will receive the following certifications.
- Michigan Asbestos Abatement Contractor Supervisor License
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration (30 Hour)
- NCCER Course Credentials in Construction Math, Construction Drawings, Power Tools, and Hand Tools
Career success can become a reality when students pair a determined mindset with these certifications.
At the conclusion of the program, full-time employment can have a profound impact on a student’s family and future. Access to unionized health insurance, additional education, and future employment opportunities are all possible. Increasing skilled trade education in underserved areas is also an important step toward raising average community income and improving overall economic health.
The number of cohorts completed each year can vary based on class location and students enrolled. Current cohorts meet for training sessions in Detroit-centric locations.
Note: We are nearing our date to break ground for a fully operational vocational training facility! This facility will be located at 14584 Livernois Ave.
